Lime Rock Park hosted the first Pirelli World Challenge race of the weekend earlier today . The GMG Racing Audi drivers did well in a very action packed race.
Four Audi R8 LMS cars have been entered, all of them from GMG Racing. The race performances were a lot better than those from the qualifying session. After titanic battles on track, Duncan Ende finished in a very strong fourth place with this #24 Audi R8 LMS. Ende could have finished even better without the late safety car. The full course yellow, just minutes before the finish, broke his impressive pace when he was chasing the Cadillac CTS-Vs for third place. Behind Ende was the series point leader and team co-owner, James Sofronas, who finished sixth. The remaining two Audis of Alex Welch and Bill Ziegler were further back, finishing tenth and eleventh respectively.
It was a hard comeback for Don Istook and his Audi TT RS in the GTS class, but it is great to see him back behind the wheel of a race car.
The overall race win went to Mike Skeen with his privateer Chevrolet Corvette, right ahead of the Cadillac duo, Andy Prilgrim and Johnny O'Connell.
The second race is set for tomorrow. We wish the best of luck for all the Audi drivers.
