Italian GT: Frustrating race 1 for Audi Sport Italia at Monza

By Tarek Ramchani

Audi Sport Italia is at Monza this weekend. The official Audi Italia dealer team is racing the season finale of the Italian GT Championship with a pair of Audi R8 LMS ultra cars.

In the qualifying sessions the #4 Audi R8 LMS ultra of Dindo Capello and Andrea Sonvico ended in ninth place (Race 1) and eighth place (Race 2). The sister #5 car of Alex Frassineti and Johan Kristoffersson did better qualifying in fourth (Race 1) and third (Race 2).

Race 1 later this afternoon was a frustrating one for the Audi team. Best ranked car was the #5 Audi R8 LMS ultra of Alex Frassineti and Johan Kristoffersson. The two drivers ended in fifth place, 35 seconds behind the race winning car.

Dindo Capello and Andrea Sonvico in the #4 Audi R8 LMS ultra had a much a harder race. Bad luck hit their Audi with a tire puncture. They finished in a disappointing tenth place, a lap down to the leaders.

Up ahead, it was an all Porsche affair. Race victory went to the #44 Porsche 997 GT3 R from Ebimotors. Second the #77 Porsche 997 GT3 R from Antonelli Motorsport. Third the #43 Porsche 997 GT3 from Tonino Motorsport.

Race 2 is set for tomorrow. We wish the best of luck to Audi Sport Italia and their drivers.

DTM: Audi in the role of the hunter at DTM finale

Audi Press Release

  •          Miguel Molina best Audi driver at Hockenheim in fifth place
  •          Four Audi RS 5 DTM cars start from the top ten
  •          On Sunday from 13:15 Uhr live on “Das Erste” and on YouTube

Ingolstadt/Hockenheim, October 19, 2013 – Odd course of events at the DTM: The Audi RS 5 DTM was the fastest car in qualifying for the DTM finale at the Hockenheimring. In spite of this, the best Audi driver will only be starting from position five on Sunday.

Mattias Ekström in the Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline managed to post the fastest lap in qualifying – albeit only in the second section (Q2) of the four-part chase for the best grid positions. His time of 1m 33.294s was subsequently not achieved again – not even by Ekström himself who ultimately, by posting a time of 1m 33.707s, secured position seven on the grid.

Two positions better was Miguel Molina, who in the Audi RS 5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Phoenix set a time of 1m 33.572s and missed making it into the crucial fourth qualifying segment by a razor-thin margin of 0.012 seconds. Still, the Spaniard was overjoyed with his own performance. “It’s great to be the best Audi driver in the final qualifying session of the year,” said the Spaniard. “Today, I squeezed the maximum out of the car and made no mistakes. Tomorrow, we’re going to battle for the manufacturers’ and the team Championship.”

A strong form was shown on Saturday by Adrien Tambay in the Audi ultra RS 5 DTM: Second in free practice in the morning, fastest in the first segment of qualifying, and third in the second section. However, similarly to Ekström, the Frenchman was unable to repeat his personal best time in Q3 – grid position eight.

Miguel Molina’s team-mate Mike Rockenfeller in the Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM will be starting his first race as the new DTM Champion from position nine. “My car was pretty difficult to drive today,” he said after qualifying. “Now, it’s important to have a good strategy for the race yet again.”

Timo Scheider in the AUTO TEST Audi RS 5 DTM secured grid position twelve. Filipe Albuquerque (Audi Financial Services RS 5 DTM) as the best driver of Audi Sport Team Rosberg is starting the race from position 14.

For Edoardo Mortara in the Playboy Audi RS 5 DTM and Jamie Green in the second Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM, qualifying was over right after Q1. The two Audi drivers are starting from positions 18 and 19.

“Obviously, the grid positions aren’t what we expected them to be,” said Dieter Gass, Head of DTM at Audi Sport. “The colleagues from Munich were very strong in qualifying. But we just barely missed Q4 with Miguel (Molina). The time gaps, as always in the DTM, are minimal, that’s why I’m expecting a thrilling race in which the weather could play a crucial role. We’re going to do everything within our means to deliver a great show to the Audi fans at the finale tomorrow. After the first three turns, the picture could be completely different.”

After two sunny days at Hockenheim, rainy weather has been forecast for the race Sunday. ARD will broadcast the DTM finale on Sunday at the usual time from 13:15 live on ‘Das Erste.’ The race, however, will only be started at 14:00 local time in order to put TV viewers in the mood for the last race of the year with extensive preliminary reports. In many countries of the world, the DTM finale can be watched live on YouTube as well.

DTM: Adrien Tambay second fastest in Hockenheim free practice session

By Tarek Ramchani

It's the season finale for the German DTM series at Hockenheim this weekend. Audi drivers performed very well in the free practice session this morning with five drivers within the top 10.

The 1h30 session saw a big battle Audi against BMW and their M3 DTM machines for the top spots. Best ranked Audi driver was Adrien Tambay in second place. The French driver from Audi Sport Team Abt set a fastest time of 1:33.456, only 0.174 behind BMW's Dirk Werner.

The newly crowned DTM champion Mike Rocknfeller was sixth fastest. The Audi Sport Team Phoenix driver with a fastest time of 1:33.636. Rocky was right behind three BMW M3 DTM cars of Bruno Spengler, Marco Wittmann and Timo Glock.

Rockenfeller's team mate at Phoenix Racing Miguel Molina was seventh. Edoardo Mortara from Audi Sport Team Rosberg was eighth ahead of the two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider from Audi Sport Team Abt.

The other three Audi drivers were outside the top 10. Jamie Green was eleventh (Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline). Filipe Albuquerque was thirteenth (Audi Sport Team Rosberg). Mattias Ekström was fifteenth (Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline).

The free practice session results can be seen here. The qualifying session is coming next with a live stream coverage at the official DTM Youtube Channel.

FIA WEC: Audi on pole position for the fifth time

Audi Press Release

  •          Fässler/Lotterer/Tréluyer fastest in qualifying at Fuji
  •          Duval/Kristensen/McNish on second row
  •          Audi unbeaten in WEC Qualifying since May

Ingolstadt/Fuji, October 19, 2013 – At round six of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Japan, Audi achieved the fifth consecutive best time of the season with the Audi R18 e-tron quattro. As at Spa and São Paulo, Marcel Fässler/André Lotterer/Benoît Tréluyer managed to leap onto the top spot of the grid.

Car number ‘1’ made its mark immediately in the qualifying session at the foot of the snow-covered Mount Fuji. André Lotterer (D) started qualifying in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro with a lap time of 1m 26.481s and on his next outing posted a 1m 26.235 as the fastest time of the entire qualifying session. Consequently the German who lives in Tokyo clearly beat the existing qualifying lap record, 1.264 seconds slower set by Toyota driver Kazuki Nakajima 12 months ago. Lotterer subsequently turned his car over to Benoît Tréluyer (F). The average of the four best laps from which the WEC qualifying result is calculated reflected a time of 1m 26.577s for the fastest Audi.

The sister car designated as number ‘2’ qualified for grid position four. Allan McNish (GB) and Loïc Duval (F) shared driving duties and, on average, achieved a time of 1m 27.425s. Both drivers were less fortunate as they did not always find a clear lap. In addition, on the day before, the team had lost about an hour and a half of driving practice due to unscheduled repairs after a GT entrant had hit the race car of the Le Mans winners. Still, Duval/Kristensen/McNish can tackle the event on Sunday without pressure – as the leaders of the standings, they are starting the race with a 32-point advantage.

On Sunday, the teams can expect unpredictable weather at Fuji. The sixth of eight World Championship rounds will begin at 11:00 local time (4:00 CEST). The race can be watched by live streaming on the internet at www.audi-motorsport.com and on www.fiawec.com. In addition, an 85-minute TV broadcast on Eurosport will start in Germany at 8:35 on Sunday.

Quotes after qualifying

Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport): “Obviously, it’s great that we clinched pole here at Fuji even though it was very close. The guys in car number ‘1’ drove perfect laps. This cumulative team qualifying is something very special. Car number ‘2’ was a little less fortunate and its position was worse in traffic. That’s why the result wasn’t quite enough. But we all know that the qualifying result isn’t so important for the outcome of a six-hour race.”

Chris Reinke (Head of LMP): “A pole position is always a perfect start into a race weekend. Our two Japan protagonists managed a brilliant performance. That’s a good starting base for the race. In the case of car number ’2’ we shouldn’t forget that a complete session was lost. ‘Well done’ to the team that reassembled the heavily damaged race car. The car was certainly within the range in qualifying but we’re still going to do some detailed analysing and work on becoming faster.”

Ralf Jüttner (Technical Director Audi Sport Team Joest): “The qualifying result is nice and it was good to have clinched another Championship point for Audi. The two drivers who drove the qualifying session were very pleased. Their lap times were good – even faster than expected. But that was necessary, too, because the two Toyotas were trailing them closely. Car number ‘2’ is a little further behind. The drivers weren’t completely happy with the balance. We’ve still got to work on that for Sunday. But rows one and two on the grid are good starting bases.”

Marcel Fässler (Audi R18 e-tron quattro #1): “André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer have their home around here. That was a trump card because they know the track well and had an incredible run. They burned the times into the tarmac right on the first two laps. A qualifying session can’t go any better than this. Even though it was very close some of the time, we deserve the pole position. My two team-mates were really perfect today.”

André Lotterer (Audi R18 e-tron quattro #1): “A superb result, everything was going perfectly. I managed it in just two laps and afterwards Benoît (Tréluyer) was able to continue driving on relatively fresh tires. He was running perfectly. He had one lap for aiming and then was a real bombshell. The competition was strong and we’re happy to be in front of the two Toyota cars. For me, it’s a home round and a true highlight. Hopefully, things will continue this way in the race tomorrow.”

Benoît Tréluyer (Audi R18 e-tron quattro #1): “The whole team was great. André (Lotterer) did a fantastic job of driving. What he managed to do on the first two laps was brilliant. I was able to jump into the car and still had fresh tires. On my first lap, I was a bit cautious because the rear was a little unstable. The tires had probably cooled down a bit after the pit stop. The second lap was superb, the third one even better. The car felt great. We’re very pleased.”

Loïc Duval (Audi R18 e-tron quattro #2): “It wasn’t the kind of qualifying we’d been hoping for our car. We’ve got to find out why the performance was lacking because things had been going better yesterday and this morning. Maybe we made a mistake with the set-up. But this was just qualifying and the race will still be very long. We’re not starting far behind the others. We’ve still got some more work to do. Sincere congratulations to the drivers of our sister car.”

Tom Kristensen (Audi R18 e-tron quattro #2): “Many thanks again to our squad. It did another superb job, considering that we lost a free practice session on Friday due to unfortunate circumstances. We had a decent qualifying session and are now looking forward to the race. ‘Well done’ to our sister car, the guys had a perfect run.”

Allan McNish (Audi R18 e-tron quattro #2): “Our car was hit by an opponent yesterday. That cost us a practice session. Since then, we’ve been trying to catch up. Before qualifying, we made a few changes that didn’t work out perfectly. It wasn’t easy to put the performance on the ground and there was traffic on track. But the two Audi cars and the Toyotas are very close together. We’re no doubt in for a very tight race and are going to continue to work on the set-up to improve the car’s balance some more for Sunday.”

Qualifying results

1 Fässler/Lotterer/Tréluyer (Audi R18 e-tron quattro) 1m 26.577s

Pirelli World Challenge: Audi teams 2013 season review

By Tarek Ramchani and Johan Laubscher

2013 was a great year for the Audi brand in the demanding Pirelli World Challenge. A full squad of Audi R8 race cars had been entered from three different teams in the demanding GT class. GMG Racing was the leading team with a total of five Audi R8 LMS cars, of which they fielded four cars for the bulk of the season. JCR Motorsports entered an Audi R8 GRAND-AM which was slightly modified to meet the SCCA rules. DragonSpeed entered their Audi R8 LMS ultra at Sonoma for a once off appearance.

GMG Racing's James Sofronas lead the championship points table for most of the season and arrived as the leader at the final round in Houston. Unfortunately, bad luck hit the Audi team and driver, as the title went to arch rivals from Cadillac with Johnny O'Connel.

In the GTS class Don Istook's Audi TT RS missed the first part of the season due to Istook's bypass heart surgery. Later the popular Audi driver was back, returning at Lime Rock.

The season review has been compiled from the 2013 Audi Motorsport Blog Weekend Round Up posts. Each round has been added as was seen in the individual Weekend Round Up posts during 2013, which can be accessed via the links throughout the review below:

Round 1: Streets of St. Petersburg

The streets of St. Petersburg hosted the opening round of the SCCA Pirelli World Challenge. Five Audi cars were on the gird. Four Audi R8 LMS cars from GMG Racing and one new Audi R8 GRAND-AM car from Jeff Courtney Racing. James Sofronas was very fast this weekend, qualified in the top four and finished second in the first race after being promoted from third when the race winner was disqualified. The second race saw another traffic effected event with the #14 Audi R8 LMS of James Sofronas gaining the lead in the closing stages. He defended his position and crossed the line to take the first R8 LMS victory in the SCCA World Challenge.

Round 2: Streets of Long Beach

The second round of the SCCA Pirelli World Challenge took place on the streets of Long Beach. Five Audis were entered for the event, the same entrants that were present at St. Petersburg. Four Audi R8 LMS cars from GMG Racing and one Audi R8 GRAND-AM from Jeff Courtney Racing, which was sporting a new larger rear wing. James Sofronas, the winner last time out and current championship leader, was very fast this weekend. He took pole position for the race at Long Beach. James Sofronas converted pole position into a second victory of the season. He won ahead of Ende in fourth and Curtis in fifth.

Round 3: Circuit of the Americas

The SCCA Pirelli World Challenge headed to a new venue, the Circuit of the Americas. GMG Racing arrived with five Audi R8 LMS cars and JCR Motorsports entered their Audi R8 GRAND-AM. The Six Audis performed well this weekend. James Sofronas, in the #14 Audi R8 LMS, arrived as the championship leader and maintained that lead. He qualified second and achieved third in race one, followed by another sensational race victory in race two, taking three wins in the first five races of the season. Four Audis finished within the top ten during race one and five during the second race.

Round 4: Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

The Pirelli World Challenge headed to Detroit for the fourth round. A much smaller grid took part at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, with only nine GT class cars competing. Two Audis were entered at this event, both from GMG Racing. All eyes were on championship leader, James Sofronas, in the #14 Audi R8 LMS. He qualified in third and finished the safety car interrupted first race in fourth position. Sofronas had pole for race two but moved down to third in another heavily safety car effected race. Ultimately Sofronas finished in third followed by Ende, his GMG teammate, in fourth.

Round 5: Lime Rock Park

Round five of the Pirelli World Challenge was at Lime Rock this weekend. Four Audi R8 LMS cars from GMG Racing were joined by the returning Don Istook in his TT RS. The Audis performed well, but the weekend was dominated by the opposition. Duncan Ende was the highest Audi in race one, placing fourth ahead of James Sofronas in sixth. The second race saw Sofronas finishing in fourth, followed by his three GMG teammates placing seventh through ninth.

Round 6: Streets of Toronto

A week after Lime Rock the Pirelli World Challenge headed onto the Streets of Toronto for round six. Three GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS cars lined up on the grid this weekend. They showed good pace during practice, with James Sofronas topping the first session. In qualifying the Audis achieved a top three starting position as Sofronas qualified in third, followed by his Duncan Ende in eighth. The race ended with a fourth place for James Sofronas and Duncan Ende in sixth.

Round 7: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

Mid Ohio hosted the seventh round of the Pirelli World Challenge. Six Audis were entered: Four Audi R8 LMS cars from GMG Racing, one R8 GRAND-AM from JCR Motorsports and one TT RS from Istook’s Motorsport. The first race saw a spirited drive from the former championship leader, James Sofronas, as he battled up to third place. Two Audis finished within the top ten in race one. From the start of race two Sofronas, in the #14 GMG Audi R8 LMS, rocketed up to up second, but shortly thereafter he was passed by Pobst in the Volvo. Sofronas then began a race-long battle to maintain third position, and most importantly, trying to stay ahead of Johnny O'Connell. Duncan Ende in the #24 GMG Audi was also battling in the leading group. O'Connell eventually retired from the event and James was able to maintain his third place, to achieve his second podium finish of the weekend, collecting valuable points in his bid for the driver’s title. All five Audi GT cars finished race two within the top ten.

Round 8: Sonoma

The penultimate round of the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge headed to Sonoma, round eight of the season. Four Audis were entered this weekend. Three Audi R8 LMS cars from GMG Racing, and one Audi R8 LMS ultra from DragonSpeed. This was the North American debut of the Audi R8 LMS ultra. The Audis placed well during practice and qualifying yielded the highest placed Audi in fourth, the #14 car of James Sofronas. It was a chaotic start to the race, which saw both championship contenders spun around in different incidents on the first lap: Sofronas in the Audi and Johnny O'Connell in the Cadillac. Sofronas was able to recover, helped by an early safety car period, and finished the race in third place. Duncan Ende was the highest placed Audi, having taken second place. Elton Julian finished fifth followed by Bill Ziegler in eighth place, all four Audis within the top ten.

Round 9: Houston

The finale of the Pirelli World Challenge took place on the streets of Houston this weekend. It was a title showdown between James Sofronas in his GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS and Johnny O'Connell in his factory Cadillac CTS-V.R, which ended in heartbreak for GMG Racing. James Sofronas arrived in Houston as the points leader, with a mere 21 point lead over O'Connell. Three Audis were entered this weekend: two Audi R8 LMS cars from GMG Racing in the GT class and one Audi TT RS car from Istook Motorsports in the GTS class. The second GMG R8 LMS was piloted by Rene Rast, the factory Audi Sport customer racing driver, who had been added to the squad to support Sofronas’ bid for the title. Rast immediately showed his pace by placing second in the first practice session and first in the second session. Sofronas was sixth in both of the practice sessions. Qualifying was cancelled due to track altercations in the long break between practice sessions one and two, thus the grid was determined by championship points. This resulted in James Sofronas gaining the crucial pole position and Rene Rast starting sixth, last in the GT class, as he had no points on the table. The race itself saw very wet conditions. Sofronas lead the way ahead with Rast immediately moving up to fifth. The sixth placed Volvo misjudged the very next corner and went off and blocked Rast on track, resulting in Rast falling far behind. Sofronas continued to lead at the front as Rast began a tremendous recovery drive, lapping much faster than the front runners. Pobst in the Volvo took the lead followed by Sofronas ahead of O'Connell. Rast was able to catch and pass O'Connell, taking third and defending Sofronas in second. As the track began to dry the Cadillacs began to show pace. Sofronas suffered rear contact from Andy Pilgrim in the second Cadlillac, who had gotten past Rast. The resulting damage slowed Sofronas on track. O'Connell was able to take the lead from Pobst in the Volvo, whilst a massive battle ensued behind them with robust racing between the Audis and the second Cadillac. In the closing minutes Sofronas suffered a rear puncture and the championship dream finally came to an end, as O'Connell won the race and the championship. Rast finished fourth and Sofronas finished fifth within the GT class, taking second in the championship.

FIA WEC: Both Audis sandwiched in the third and final Fuji practice session

By Johan Laubscher

Saturday’s proceedings at Fuji kicked off bright and early with the third free practice session. The Audi squad topped both sessions on Friday and they continued their good pace this morning.

The third and final practice session started at 09:30 local time. It was a case of very close times at the top of the time sheets. Toyota set the fastest time during the third session. It was the #7 Toyota of Kazuki Nakajima, Alexander Wurz and Nicolas Lapierre which set the fastest time of 1:27.117. The pair of Audis placed second and third, sandwiched by the #7 Toyota ahead of the fourth placed #8 Toyota.

The #1 Audi of André Lotterer, Benoit Tréluyer and Marcel Fassler finished in second place, a mere 0.146 seconds behind the leading Toyota. The #2 Audi of Allan McNish, Loic Duval and Tom Kristensen placed third, 0.181 seconds back from the leader. The Audi duo were followed by Toyota #8, with all four of the factory cars being split by only 0.419 seconds. The final LMP1 entrant was fifth, the privateer #12 Lola B12/60 Coupé - Toyota from Rebellion Racing.

Qualifying will be taking place later today, scheduled to begin at 13:55 local time. We wish the best of luck to Audi Sport Team Joest and their drivers.

FIA WEC: Audi takes the top spots with a 1-2 during Fuji free practice two

By Johan Laubscher

The action continued at Fuji as the second free practice session got underway during the afternoon in Japan. Both Audi R18 e-tron quattro cars were circulating during the second session.

Toyota had originally lead the way earlier this morning when the #8 Toyota TS030 Hybrid topped the time sheets, ahead of Audi #1 and Audi #2. The final classification was amended and the fastest time for Toyota #8 was omitted after a pitlane speeding violation, thus promoting the Audis to a 1-2 at the top of the times, as the #8 Toyota dropped to third.

The third placed Audi suffered a crash during the first session, with Loic Duval behind the wheel, after contact with an Aston Martin GTE car. There was substantial damage to the rear of the car and the team replaced the damaged gearbox, as well as the engine as a precautionary measure. The #2 Audi was repaired and ready in time for the start of the second session.

The second free practice session, which started at 15:30 local time, concluded with another Audi 1-2. The #2 Audi of Allan McNish, Loic Duval and Tom Kristensen was fastest ahead of the sister #1 Audi of André Lotterer, Benoit Tréluyer and Marcel Fassler, with a gap of 0.532 seconds. They were ahead of the two Toyotas, #8 ahead of #7, with the top four being split by only 0.648 seconds. The final LMP1 entrant was fifth, the #12 Lola B12/60 Coupé - Toyota from Rebellion Racing.

The second free practice session concluded Friday’s track running, as free practice three and qualifying will be taking place on Saturday.

FIA WEC: Revisions to 2014 FIA WEC calendar announced

FIA WEC Press Release

The provisional 2014 calendar for the FIA World Endurance Championship has been modified to take into account the changes recently made to the Formula One calendar.

The 6 Hour races at Spa-Francorchamps and Fuji have been moved back one week in May and October respectively, with the only other change being to the race day at the Circuit of The Americas, which will now take place on Saturday 20 September, rather than Sunday 21st as previously announced.

Gerard Neveu, CEO of the FIA WEC, said: “We have made these changes to the 2014 calendar to avoid any clashes with Formula One. Half of the races will now take place on Saturday, which could mean some them finishing under night conditions, and this will allow us to plan some special entertainment such as fireworks at the finish and a concert on Saturday evening to improve the overall package on offer to the fans and to apply the Le Mans race event spirit. We will be presenting this modified calendar to the FIA World Motor Sport Council for ratification at the next meeting.”

Pirelli World Challenge: DragonSpeed testing their Audi R8 LMS ultra at COTA

By Johan Laubscher

The 2013 season may be drawing to a close, but many of the teams are already hard at work ahead of 2014. DragonSpeed was out testing their Audi R8 LMS ultra at COTA this week.

DragonSpeed, the first and only North American team to acquire an Audi R8 LMS ultra, was at the Circuit of The Americas this week, conducting test sessions with their Audi. The team competed in a handful of races with the car this year, including the Pirelli World Challenge at Sonoma. Their Audi R8 LMS ultra was seen testing in its base carbon fibre finish at COTA.

DragonSpeed has announced their intention to be competing in the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge season, when FIA GT3 cars will be allowed in their full GT3 aerodynamic specification.

It is always great to see the teams working hard in the off-season. Now the long wait begins for 2014.

FIA WEC: Second and third for Audi in Fuji first practice session

By Tarek Ramchani

Action has started at Fuji Speedway in FIA WIorld Endurance Championship. The first free practice session already done with Toyota leading ahead of the two Audi R18 e-tron quattro cars.

Best of the Audis was the #1 R18 e-tron quattro in second place. The car shared by André Lotterer, Benoit Tréluyer and Marcel Fassler only 0.113s behind the leading Toyota. The three drivers did 39 laps with a fastest time of 1:28.438. Anthony Davidson, Sebastien Buemi and Stephane Sarrazin were the fastest driving the factory #8 Toyota TS030 Hybrid.

Bad luck hit the sister #2 Audi R18 e-tron quattro. The car driven by Allan McNish, Loic Duval and Tom Kristensen had an unfortunate contact with an Aston Martin Vantage GTE and hit a barrier. As a result the #2 Audi crew changed the damaged gearbox and the engine as a precaution as well. The car covered only five laps but managed to take third place with a fastest time of 1:28.676.

The #7 Toyota TS030 Hybrid of Kazuki Nakajima, Alexander Wurz and Nicolas Lapierre was fourth. The #12 Lola B12/60 Coupé - Toyota from Rebellion Racing was fifth driven by Mathias Beche and Andrea Belicchi.

The second free practice session is coming next, 15:30 local time.

Update: The first free practice results were amended following the conclusion of the session. The fastest time for Toyota #8 was omitted in the final classification after a pitlane speeding violation, thus dropping them to third place, behind Audi #1 and Audi #2.

A Key Point Briefly Summarized

In a social order where male life was not valued equally to female life, there would be no basis for reciprocal moral obligation between men and women.

As a man in such a hypothetical case, you would have (in a purely objective sense) no objective moral obligation to look out for the well-being of women in general, or any woman in particular. Thus, to pick a classic example, if you became aware of a woman being raped, there would be no objective moral obligation for you, as a man in such a case, to intervene or call for help. I realize that certain people would read this and recoil from the thesis stated here, but the vehemence of their emotion would equate to no philosophical proof of any opposite conclusion.

In a social order where male life was not valued equally to female life, those who claim there is a male obligation toward women, would not occupy an adequate moral standpoint from which to assert the said claim.

In a social order where male life was not valued equally to female life, any man would operate as a free moral agent in regard to any woman. The basis of any man's conduct toward any woman, would be a moral law within himself. This could take nearly any form imaginable.

In  such a case as we are discussing, the moral order could be remedied, and mutual obligation restored, by a series of philosophical pronouncements enshrined in law. These pronouncements would make clear that neither male life nor female life was rated higher than its counterpart. They would additionally lay the foundation for enactments at all levels of jurisprudence, legal practice, and public policy, to ensure that the needful spirit was instilled into the life of the culture.

Oh this is going to get really dirty.

FIA GT: The Belgian Audi Club Team WRT will enter fourth car at Baku finale

Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Press Release

The Belgian Audi Club today announced it will enter a fourth Audi R8 LMS ultra in the closing round of the FIA GT Series to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan next 22-24 November.
The car will be entrusted to Portugal’s Filipe Albuquerque (28), who has already raced for Team WRT in 2011 and 2012, and to France’s Grégoire Demoustier (22), who will debut with the team at this occasion.

Demoustier and Albuquerque will join efforts with the squad’s regular line-ups: Ortelli-Vanthoor, Sandström-Stippler and Mayr-Melnhof-Rast. The fourth car is aimed at enhancing this stellar event, which will bring a FIA championship to the urban track of Baku for the first time.

The squad’s objective for this last race of the FIA GT Series will be to secure the Teams’ title for the Belgian Audi Club Team WRT, which currently enjoys a 28-point lead in the overall standings. The Azerbaijan race will also be decisive for the Drivers’ title, which cannot escape Team WRT, as the only three contenders left are Ortelli-Vanthoor, Sandström-Stippler and Mayr-Melnhof.

Team WRT Principal Vincent Vosse explains: “Baku will be a very special event, which will bring Azerbaijan and the whole region into the map of international motorsports. The organizers and local authorities are doing a great effort to have a memorable event, and entering an additional car is a way to stress its importance and further contribute to the show. I am very happy to have Albuquerque and Demoustier with us. We know Filipe well, of course, as he has raced for us in the past, and he is a popular figure within the team, and we will be delighted to welcome Grégoire. He has shown very good things in GT racing, driving other brands’ cars and he tested with us some time ago. The feedback was very positive, we stayed in contact, and I am happy that the opportunity to work together has now arisen.”
