The finale of the Audi R8 LMS Cup is taking place on the streets of Macau this weekend. A total of twenty Audi R8 LMS cars are taking part in the event.
The championship title fight was the big news this weekend. Alex Yoong arrived at Macau as the championship points leader, leading ahead of Adderly Fong and Marchy Lee. A number of additional drivers also took part this weekend, headlined by the return of “Mr Macau” Edoardo Mortara in the #5 BRT Audi R8 LMS. Mortara will be taking part in the Macau GT Cup next weekend, an event which he had won in 2011 and 2012. He has been untouchable so far this weekend, as he dominated practice and took pole position.
Qualifying saw pole for Mortara, followed by Andre Couto and Adderly Fong. Audi Sport factory driver, Rahel Frey, qualified in eighth place.
Alex Yoong suffered a massive crash during qualifying. Yoong has thankfully been reported as unharmed, but his car is wrecked and he is out for the weekend. A video of the crash has been embedded below:
